The Aim of the Test




AquaCare has done the ultimate skimmer test in the Red Sea in the near of Hurghada. Aim of the small expedition was the evidence that AquaCare skimmers are more sensitive to protein concentrations than natural concentrations in real biotopes - here in the Red Sea. This is the first test in this kind - as we know. The results were absolutely not predictable.

Experimental set-up




To eliminate anthropogenic influences like discharge of waste water the expedition drove with a car about 30 km nothern heading to Ras Gharib. At a place with a car access to the beach a 12 V DC - 230 V AC convertert was mounted at the car battery and a cable was laid into the sea. The skimmer ACF1000V was supplied with a conventional aquabee pump, type UP3000. The electrical plug was protected against sea water with a plastic bag and a shoe - the Egyptian way. After starting the injector pump and a rough adjusting of the internal water level the skimmer starts to produce foam after about 3 minutes. We were astonished that the Red Sea has such a high protein concentration - the produced flotate was black and has filled the skimmer cup very rapidly. The team has kept this test in pictures and videos.

Results




  1. The concentrations of substances put out by a skimmer in the Red Sea are higher than in an average reef aquarium. The production of foam starts considerably faster than in AquaCare testing aquaria.
  2. In other words: if a skimmer in a aquarium is not skimming for a short time (substances that inhibits skimming excluded) the water quality is better than in a natural biotop.
  3. The oscillation of water pressure caused by wash of the waves is not affecting the performance of the skimmer.
  4. Science makes fun ;-)
